Attorney Sasha McCandless is back in Irretrievably Broken. The venerable law firm of Prescott & Talbott is reeling from the murder of partner Ellen Mortenson - purportedly at the hands of her estranged husband - when a photograph of the dead woman arrives, her face Xed out and "ONE DOWN" scrawled across the bottom. Within days, a second partner is murdered, her husband also accused. Sasha doesn't practice criminal defense, so she's suspicious when her former firm asks her to represent Ellen's husband. Owing Prescott a favor, she takes the case and soon finds herself representing not one, but both, of the so-called Lady Lawyer Killers. The long hours jeopardize her relationship with Leo Connelly when he needs her most. That's the least of Sasha's troubles, though, because what she doesn't know is that the real killer is waging a vendetta for a past case gone wrong. And there's one more lawyer on his list.

Since the last case(s) in Springport, PA. Sasha McCandless has returned to her private practice in Pittsburgh, PA. Naya has come to work for Sasha as her legal assistant. Better still, they now had a coffee station with free coffee for them and their clients!

Will Volner, from Prescott & Talbott (Sasha and Naya had worked at P&T), comes to Sasha with a case that the firm wants to hire her for. A partner P&T, Ellen Mortenson has been murdered. Her husband has been arrested for the murder. The firm does not believe that Greg Lang murdered his wife. Since Ellen was a partner, the firm cannot represent him -- but, they want Sasha to take the case. They would post bail for him -- and pay her a $300,000.00 retainer. Sasha is suspicious and does not understand why they want HER to take the case, she never takes criminal or divorce cases. Will assures her that he believes she CAN help Greg, if anyone can. Soon, there is another murder under seemingly similar, yet somewhat different circumstances. This time, another partner at P&T, Clarissa Costopolous is murdered -- and HER husband is arrested for her murder. Now Sasha is representing TWO clients who have been accused of murdering their wives. There are more similarities uncovered that link these murders. Sasha has to unravel the clues and represent her clients to the best of her ability.

Soon, these cases are taking all of Sasha's time which leaves her no time to work on her personal life with Leo Connelly at a time when he really needs her.

I have to admit that the end of this book really shocked AND surprised me. I did not see this ending coming, it was so well written! I am definitely hooked on this series and the characters. These are some of the best legal thrillers out there, in my humble opinion. I have read a lot of books in my life, but I am very new to writing reviews. This book has it all -- a page-turning, legal thriller that leaves you wanting to rush to the next book as soon as you get to the end. I am so glad I bought this series. Ms. Miller is one of my current favourite authors (I do not compare authors to one another because they all have their own strengths and weaknesses)... I highly recommend that if you want a good legal thriller series, give this one a shot!

Irretrievably Broken Sasha McCandless Book 3 (Audible Audio Edition) Melissa F Miller Karen Commins Books Reviews

I was enjoying the read and realizing that the end was coming fast and bam! the author threw a wrench, or a lifesaver to the plot out and all was well, and wrapped up within the chapter! Which was btw, jarring and abrupt.

*************Questions about ending ahead - very slightly spoilerish*****************

- or was it? The ending kind of trashed the book for me and I agree that there are two HUGE plot holes unresolved. No explanation at all as to why Sasha "had" to be on the case from her old firm, unless it was to show that $300,000 doesn't motivate her? but still a very weak explanation. And the case resolution, leaving it as it was - I'm not even sure that would be legal, much less ethical? Moreover, where's the motive??? And I think the timeline was off, too, on the "purchase." Why would that happen, or why would someone offer to have their truck searched then - one or the other does not add up? After my initial annoyance died down, I could clearly see that with the pretty endlessly detailed information we as readers had been given, the question was unanswerable. Plus 2+2 on actions did not add up to 4. Trying not to spoil anything here, but still express my frustration.

So, if the next one's ever offered free, OR the reviews say any of this was addressed, I'll be happy to read a new enjoyable character. If not, I feel ripped off - most definitely NOT the way I feel, or want to feel, when I read a good book!
Again I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 for reasons that may be spoilers so if u don't like spoilers, don't read this review. I really like this author's writing but with her education I would expect nothing less than a well thought out and well written book. Problem number one for me is that I still felt as if I was in a Civil Procedure class and I understand her desire to describe every minute detail of the legal process but give your readers some credit for understanding what they are reading. The second problem is my biggest pet peeve of all, and that is that Leo just expects Sasha to uproot her existence, away from family and a practice that is beginning to thrive to follow him in his new endeavor. That is just wrong. Leo knew what and who he was getting involved with and why he would take a job in another state and expect that of her is just ridiculous. Leo proposes the 'long distance relationship' to solve part of the problem but he can't even see the importance of the demand of her clients in a emergency situation, how is he going to do long distance? I assume the author will work it out as I have read the intro to the next book but it has left a bad feeling in me and frankly is not consistent with the characterization of the Leo the author was trying to get her readers to know. I also know from experience that it takes a great deal of understanding to be married to a lawyer who is dedicated but knowing that going in is the KEY (and honestly at that point I almost put the book down). That being said I again had most of the plot figured out so I confess I did skim parts of the book bc I knew where it was going already but I also find myself not being able to shut it down at night.
