John Brown An Address at the 14th Anniversary of r College eBook Frederick Douglass

Frederick Douglass is one of my 'faves'. This speech is remarkable not only because of the subject (John Brown), but also the location the speech was delivered: Harper's Ferry; less than 20 years after John Brown's attack. The wheel does turn! Given Brown's role as a catalyst, a speech by an old friend is fitting. Also nice is the credit given to Shields Green.

John Brown An Address at the 14th Anniversary of r College - i purchased this for a class and then didn't have to read it, so I hope to get it to it
Although not a comprehensive biography of the life of John Brown or the abolition movement, Frederick Douglas' Address delivers a stong and clear message on the evils of slavery and Brown's vision for ending the institution. The Address is an excellent starting point for the casual reader on the abolitonist movement and John Brown.
This book is history at its finest and puts the raid in context. The reader discovers that the Harper's Ferry raid was not a random act by a crazed man.
When I purchased this book about John Brown, the abolitionist, I was looking for more biographical information. I bought it online because it was free, not realizing it was written by the famed Frederick Douglas. It was wonderful and provided a fresh perspective that is supported by facts. American authors have tried very hard to paint John Brown as an absolute failure in business, finances, manhood, abolition of slavery, and mentally impaired. This book shows how wrong they are.
An excellent piece of history here and provides a brief glimpse into the background of John Brown's raid at Harpers Ferry prior to the Civil War. This short book is an address given by Fredrick Douglass, who was a long-time acquaintance of John Brown. Douglass sides with those who think Brown was a hero, not a villain and Douglass has the utmost respect for Brown's dedication to the anti-slavery cause. As Douglass says; he himself was willing to live for slaves, but Brown (a white man) was willing to die for them.
